June 6, 2018 at 8:02 pm #631624I'm curious about the winning entry...Im calling fake on this one. The head is an outstanding render, but the rest below just does not match. Hopefully the creator will explain.
June 6, 2018 at 8:11 pm #631631Thanks for the votes and thanks to Miarka for the contest.
June 6, 2018 at 8:48 pm #631658I'm betting it's just a good render. Might not be DAZ3D, but wouldn't call it a fake. Very strong facial lighting.
June 6, 2018 at 8:53 pm #631664Thanks @everyoneWhoVoted! @dipole-dipole & @oldarath beautiful renders. @oldarath, love the detail! @dipole-dipole, love the feeling of that scene!
June 6, 2018 at 9:10 pm #631679@hawkeye define "fake", if you would? I mean... these are computer renders. They're as "fake" as it comes. So what exactly construes "fake" in this context? IIRC there wasn't anything in the rules about which program(s) to use?
As for all the winners and losers: very very nice artwork! And very cool contest, @miarka
June 6, 2018 at 9:39 pm #631693I personally think #2 looks more real. Ive seen several great 3d busts and while they are impressive they lack reality because they are busts. Great definition texture ect but then if I can say that,I know they are 3d.
June 6, 2018 at 11:42 pm #631794Thanks @miarka for a great contest, and everyone who voted!
I'm not sure what "Fake" means honestly, do you mean composite? It was supposed to be a character exposition, so I didn't spend a lot of time on the cloths. I just found a combination of things in my library that did the job honestly. The hair I did with Garibaldi (stubble & eyebrows included) and the eyepatch I made in Marvelous Designer. I did some work on the face in ZBrush. Everything else was entirely in Daz Studio and rendered with Iray.
I know portraits/busts are boring to some, and I get that. But most of my renders are portraits I'm usually going for realism and close-ups are the best way to show that off. I didn't really expect to win because of that, realism isn't everyone's thing. I just enjoyed participating, and I'm not really sure why you think I'd bother if I was just going to cheat in some way.
Anyway, thanks to everyone for participating. It's great to see so many different takes on the theme, that's what makes the contests fun.June 7, 2018 at 1:28 am #631885Appreciate the explanation of your workflow Dipole. Surprised it's an Iray render, thought it was Octane.
Where you get that skin texture?
