@Frank22 A lot of people do, actually! Some people give the product to the moderators and they will upload for them.
January 12, 2021 at 5:21 am #1657634Another suggestion to promote sharing that could eliminate the need for private sharing. (A friend can login and post on your behalf)
Download cost are adjusted per individual on a sliding scale according to the amount of items posted.
For instance:
0 blog posts = Show Download Link cost 500 points.
1-5 blog posts = SDL 250 points
6-10 blog posts = SDL 100 points
11+ blog posts = SDL 50 pointsAlternatively, the same idea can be applied to the amount of downloads a person makes, which would curb leech sites. Resetting on a time interval.
January 12, 2021 at 6:04 am #1657637Well, if it is ‘limping’ it is still quicker than the reat of the field!
This thread and several of its replies exist for a reason.
January 12, 2021 at 8:49 am #1657650Well, there is also the utopian way (if you want to call it somehow).
The "perfect" solution (IMO) is to everyone here or want to be here, to share minimum 1 new item each month (or each 2 months max). It will grant you X downloads, let's put 10-20-30 donwloads for item? something like that. And maybe each new registered user have one download for free.
BUT, because this won't be possible as not everyone are willing (or really dont have) to spend like 20-30$ monthly (or less with the discounts, bargains, etc.). We will have this way which is better than anything.
I have always said it and it works like a charm so far. If you want to people actually help you with sharings, share. But share for real. Sharing is about getting your money of your pocket and spending into a certain thing that after that, you will share for others. A NEW thing from a store.
And to be fair, more than happy for being here and have discovered this wonderful site. The best of 2020 by far.
January 12, 2021 at 10:20 am #1657656Which ever way you configure it, you are never going to please everybody.
There are always going to be people complaining about this or that.
So you modify something, that pleases the first party, but upsets somebody else.
It is a no win situation.Nothing is perfect, but I think we have a pretty sucessful formula going here.
It needs tweaking from time to time, everything needs maintenance, so we always listen to complaints & suggestions.
The caveat is that the workload should be manageable for those that are involved in running the site.
A lot has to go on here that the members never see.
As I have said before, we do this for pleasure, not a job.January 12, 2021 at 10:28 am #1657657Reference the private share versus blog posting issue.
Ideally, we like everything Daz / Poser sharing publicly on the blog.
That is the primary focus of the site. That said there are some vendors who are very proactive with Take Down notices.
That is why some vendors items aren't posted on the blog, (at least for any duration of time).
Whilst we like the site to attract lots of hits, that kind of attention is not good, and is worth avoiding.January 12, 2021 at 12:17 pm #1657679Monk tells me that several people send her items to post for various reasons.
Monk is a she? Now that is something unexpected indeed!
January 12, 2021 at 6:26 pm #1657799An interesting thought from @cage.
It's make live harder, but looks like not killing simple person. I just get less items per time, if i don't share. If i side site owner, SDL makes my live harder, because i need more time to stealing. Not bad.Adapt to Survive
Leech-site owner only get, but do not create at most time, i think. Here we have new reason for creating alts. accounts, because it's easier to accumulate points this way. What harded for side site onwer, just make multiple alts, and just download from thats accoubt, or makes alts and spend time for getting asstets fro each of them, to imitate basic user?
It seems to me that the systems will work better together. That's work on goal "Strengthening the local economy" as well.
January 12, 2021 at 10:17 pm #1657829The proposal by @cage is interesting, but there are side effects and people must double think of it. Indeed, the number of resources to share is limited. Daz+rendo generate at most 100 items/week. What is the number of users here? This could determine the period during which one upload is required. Except that (fortunately) some will continue to post a much larger amount (to get points or because they want to share) and users may compete for assets and/or not be able to find an asset to share. They may for instance buy a new asset to find that it has just been posted which is very frustrating. Ultimately, this policy may reduce the number of users, hence the number of downloads and accordingly the reward for posting an item and the number of uploads.
Maybe basing the price of "show download link" on the current number of points could have a similar impact but limit the side effects. For instance <1000pts SDL=200pts, 1000-4000pts SDL=150pts, 4000-10000pts SDL=150pts, >10kpts SDL=50pts. You mostly get points by uploading, so the result is identical. But it is not the only way that limits the bad side effects. And it is technically easier as you do not have to keep track of user uploads.January 12, 2021 at 10:34 pm #1657831The point of this thread was about people "stealing" content from here and posting it on other sites within minutes of those items hitting the blog. Pie-Rites complaining about "stealing" is somewhat funny, but that's neither here nor there. The way to slow down the leechers from other sites is to slow down the sharing of content to the general blog. Forcing the owners of these other sites to get more points before they can download would be futile.
January 12, 2021 at 10:35 pm #1657834One thing I would personally be concerned with is that I buy in spurts. So, I am definitely not able to buy on a hard time table (i.e. 3 a month, or whatever a good example might be). However, when I do buy, I buy a lot. Hence, me uploading the 15-ish uploads I did around the holidays. So, I am not saying the site should cover every possible scenario just to appease me (I'm only one user). But it would be nice if there was a way to keep overall uploads into consideration, as opposed to what I have done in the past week.
For example if I did 12 in two months, perhaps that can be considered the same as if I had done 3 every month for the past 4 months. Or whatever, I'm just kind of making up numbers. Hopefully that makes sense.
January 13, 2021 at 5:49 am #1657926When in glass houses, don't throw rocks. I can't believe anyone here feels any kind of entitlement for any products that were stolen (that's what pirates do, and I'm one of them as well) from the original store.
I always saw the other sites as backups for content posted here. If anything were to happen to this site, there won't be anywhere else to find lot's of the products shared here. Is that what everyone wants? Zonegfx to become the ONLY pirate site? I actually use 3dload.net a lot because it's quicker than having to log in here.
Sad to see that the 1 week rule is gone. It's now on it's way to become a private share site and, in my opinion, the fastest way for the site to die.January 13, 2021 at 7:05 am #1657943What's the reason for having points?
January 13, 2021 at 8:26 am #1657948' Sad to see that the 1 week rule is gone. '
No, it isn't.
It is just that some are more lax in following it than others.
:0/
In any case, after that grace period, any member who has the file may post it to the blog.
