Its the same situation over and over again. It is no different than the content creator who probably doesn't like their stuff showing up at any of these sites in the first place. It is pretty much inevitable if we are going to maintain an open society that something like this happens.
But the risks of the opposite approach almost always result in unintended effects that wind up hurting more than helping. The best thing is to just educate, and more people will respect that than not. Like this one person that was mentioned, that is just one person. We can't let the small number of bad seeds taint us. Just like the content sellers cannot let the advent of piracy get them down. I truly believe that quality products will sell on their merits, that most people will choose to support quality when they see it, regardless if it is on a pirate site or not.
This is no different with how this site operates. I consider this site to be the best of its kind, and I believe that most users here feel that way, too. We can maybe ban accounts that are proven to do certain things, but I think it would do more harm than good to try changing too much just because of the actions of a few.I totally agree that any money should go to the content makers, not the pirate sites. The sites only need enough to keep them functioning and maybe get a coffee, not to become a profiteering site.
January 7, 2021 at 6:43 am #1656277@JackSparrow I think, ultimately, it should be up to the site owner and admins on what the criteria would be IF it were to ever happen - even if we just did a trial period to see if it worked or not and if we all liked it.
@Cage I understand, I'm sorry if I came off combative! I just get frustrated because if we're already sharing I don't understand reuploading lol
@Bamboozler90 That's very true and a perspective I, embarrassingly, did not think of! I'm sure it's frustrating to create a product and have it re-uploaded. I want to believe that everyone here puts their money towards the creators when they can but I know that's definitely wishful thinking. Hopefully the people reuploading at least think twice before doing it if they run across this topic.Apologies to everyone for ranting so much today LOL
January 7, 2021 at 7:27 am #1656283That’s a old discussion.We can’t change it.People come here and download,put their site lol that’s pathetic.
January 7, 2021 at 12:29 pm #1656331See Zelmon's "leeches vs seeders" thread sticked at the top of all the forums. Covers a lot of this. Nothing should by posted to the blog imo that is filled as a request until the sharer has had a chance to upload it and at least a month has passed.
Sharers are the life blood of zone. The happier the sharers are, the happier everyone is.
January 7, 2021 at 12:31 pm #1656336Hmm a month is too long to expect members to wait for an item to be posted.
That is why we struck a compromise of a week.
🙂January 7, 2021 at 12:39 pm #1656342I remember eelgoo. I still think the amount of sharing has gone down here over the past 6 months or so. Might be due to the impacts of covid. Threads like this keep popping up every few weeks. Always gives me an opportunity to stick my nose in again 😉
January 7, 2021 at 12:48 pm #1656355I think that probably is it.
Most people have a lot less disposable income in recent times.
:0/January 8, 2021 at 9:48 pm #1656720I must say that I disagree with many things that has been said in this thread. People start from the hypothesis that every pirated daz item available on the net comes from zonegfx. It is true that zonegfx is the largest asset site and generates the majority of daz items on the internet, but you also find here items that come directly from other pirate sites. This is obviously true for most very old items, especially if they are NLA at a merchant site, but also for new items. I also visit render-state and f95zone, and everyday there are several items that are posted on these sites (especially render-state) before zonegfx and the version published here obviously comes from another site. I even made an experiment. I posted on f95 a relatively new item (but not too new, maybe a couple of month old) that I bought and it was on zonegfx just a couple of hours after.
So, no, not all the items here have be purchased by zonegfx members and there is no more stealing if another site publishes something from here than the opposite. This just an exchange. But the much larger size of zonegfx (that is enforced by the smart point system) may give this impression.
The only real problem is if the pirate site requires money to download items. But the problem is more general. Requiring money for pirated assets is definitely *evil* and *despicable*, whatever the origin of the items. But if the site is free and has no advertisement, what is really the problem?
PS: My intention is not to start a troll. I do not post items that I got here on other sites. All the items, without any exception, that I have posted (and the large majority is posted here) have been purchased by me. And on the average, presently I upload more than I download (this has not always been true). But sincerely, I do not understand the reaction of several posts. Limiting the access to zonegfx would just reduce the number of members and accordingly the amount of items available.January 8, 2021 at 10:10 pm #1656723January 10, 2021 at 9:34 am #1657080All this pales in comparison to how DAZ Co has completely destroyed faith that they know what they're doing. Their so-called site upgrade has their galley down for two months and a multitude of errors with sales and site software. Discounts are not showing and downloads are broken. Just when you think things couldn't get any worse, today they're demanding products be returned due to a sales dept error which erroneously marked some products as free. There are currently 2,800+ posts on their site upgrade "known problems" thread. A whole heap of people need to be sacked... I'd start from the very top down.
January 10, 2021 at 9:39 am #1657081They need to get rid of their notorious storm trooper forum moderators too.
January 10, 2021 at 12:44 pm #1657152Agreed eelgoo. Chohole is the worst mod I think I've ever encountered on a products actual forums that are meant to help people. Her avatar is fitting imo. She attacks noobs with a condescending attitude and offers no help, only pithy comebacks and putdowns. Haseltine is a shill for DAZ with a "DAZ can do no wrong" attitude, but at least he tries to help folks and get issues resolved.
January 10, 2021 at 4:07 pm #1657204I think the weapon of choice has more to do with what you intend to use the software for.
There should be more specialisation, if anything, rather than hitting a generic block of code until it does lots of things quite badly.
Arguably DS is in a decent place for brought-in content manipulation for single frame rendering.
Perhaps they should look at seperate dedicated software & resources for model creation/modification & animation?:0/
January 10, 2021 at 4:12 pm #1657208DS will never be replaced by Blender. Both programs have their own type of audiences and specific type of content made.
Unless something similar to DS comes out that does things better then there’s no chance for it to be replaced simply because it is the only program currently doing what it is doing and is the most easy to get into, unlike Blender where you need hours upon hours of practice and tutorials to even dip your toes into it.
January 10, 2021 at 4:56 pm #1657220@ethiopia With all due respect, you are pretty frackin' delusional to even think for one iota that Blender will supplant Daz Studio in any capacity. Ever.
The appeal of DS to the normies is that it's relatively easy to use. With Blender, you have to constantly keep up with updates and the overall program, though powerful, is far too complex for the average joe/jane to fully grasp right out of the box. Not to mention the tutorials made available for it range from obnoxious to poorly done.
Blender has a reputation of being intimidating at first glance, and it doesn't have that without valid reasons.
And I say this as someone who has been learning Blender over the past few years for my own reasons.
If you think Blender is easy and better than DS, then I -without any sarcasm- fully encourage you to write up tutorials and make how-to videos explaining your methods and reasons without your usual elitist jackassery presumptions that everyone should just know Blender right away.
