Things you should never discuss among friends Religion, politics and AI.
Ill never tire of discussing any of them. Especially seeing how AI is relatively new when compared to the others and is changing rapidly.
At one point in time a monkey picked up a sharp rock and found it easier to use as a tool for opening a potato chip bag.
Some random man-ape thought putting pictures on the inside of a cave wall was a good idea for some reason. Possibly the moon told him to do it.
After thousands of years of information its probably difficult to be original but at some point someone decided to mix a few rocks together to get gunpowder.
Now we decided to let our invention think for us. We have no need to think now. let the computers do that. At one time I could remember multiple peoples phone numbers. Now they are on speed-dial and I can barely remember mine. My GPS plans my routes now. Ive no need for a map and to remember my exit number. People rarely communicate by speech now, everyone text or emails. Ive even seen multiple people SAY: LOL instead of actually laughing.
So why not just let the computer imagine for us. We have no real need for imagination. Let the computer tell us what we are visualizing. We can then believe it was our idea all along.
Thanks for the complement but AI did all the work 😉

August 20, 2024 at 5:46 pm #2087372this ape still drives without GPS, talks to real people, remembers at least 10 phone numbers, and can still make calculations in his head.
All the "tools" we have been given through time, are no more than that.
A paint and brushes made for better pictures dan charcoal on rock.
Also these "tools' sometimes lead to "new" things.
Like music, starting with percussion ( stick on a hollow tree stump), to a complete symphony by Beethoven. He needed all the instruments to produce one piece of music ( sticks would not have been enough)
AI in graphics is no more than a tool , it enhances the image you made. One could call it a smart filter.
As long as you can not create an image you have in your mind, like in say DAZ, AI is not useful as a "creative" tool. If it is possible to learn how to do that, than one can use AI to bring ones imagination into reality, be it a picture, music or else.
But it has to be the user who creates, what tool is used to get the image is irrelevant, as long as it is 100% the idea of the creative person using that tool.August 20, 2024 at 6:44 pm #2087375Not a great analogy but here it goes.
2 top ranked professional racecar drivers enter a race. Both have an amazing record and are considered mostly equal. Their cars are considered mostly equal seeing that both posted average times consistently close to each other.
One driver is coming off a 2 month vacation and hasn't been on this track in almost a year.
The other driver took several practices laps less than a week ago and has been helping his crew tune the car with feedback from the practices and studying his lap videos.
Would you say based on everything being equal accept the drivers effort that they are evenly matched or that the person who stayed "fresh" might have an edge?
If you're not exercising your imagination and are depend on something or someone to do it for you, it means you aren't staying fresh. Your imagination might make you dependant on that computer to think for you. Artist may hit a wall and not know what to paint next. Will they need to ask AI what they should do?
If the lazy driver put AI in his car and won the race who deserves the credit?
Then again we could just put an AI driver in both cars and see who programs the best.
If I've rarely driven a car but program my AI driver to beat you using your race data does that make me a professional driver?
August 20, 2024 at 7:00 pm #2087378As you know I work with clay. I always have a pile of "raw" material on hand. Sometimes i go into a frenzy and make a few sculptures in one go, sometimes ( like lately) I have no inspiration, so I do not touch the clay. But there will come a day....
Creativity can't be switched on like a computer.
So I do other things in stead, until the day comes.
To go to your racecar story.
You should race when you feel like it, not because you have to. IF you do so regardless, you are gonna loose.
But it is nice to have a choice of cars to fit the mood of the day 😉August 20, 2024 at 7:06 pm #2087379Tried CreaAI and it is a nice toy
I have also tried AIARty image enhancer, it is less destructive to the original pic, less options to, but a nice filter for a finished renderAiArty Image Enhancer 2.6 Install & Portable (Lifetime license)
If you haven't already, give it a try
August 20, 2024 at 9:11 pm #2087390Doing stuff as a hobby is a bit different than doing it for a living. Many people probably can't go up to a client and say I'll do it when I feel like it. I'm sure there are some highly regarded artists that can but since anyone with a computer and a vocabulary is a digital artist now those times will change.
Perhaps my analogy was a bit convoluted. If you go to a gym to exercise and tell someone else to exercise for you, you're not going to get much benefit out of going to the gym. If you constantly rely on a crutch to keep you standing then that crutch pretty much has to be there to stand. Daz is a crutch. Yet Daz doesn't think for me. Using AI to drop in a background or change a face is a bit different than giving it a word salad and clicking a button. My humble opinion of course.
If you were to take a lump of clay and hand it to a sculpture then say I want vase that looks like an old cola bottle when he was done with it would you take credit for sculpting it?
August 20, 2024 at 9:27 pm #2087392Take this for instance. I typed in some random crap and this popped out.
All I did was type a few words. I had more input into the coffee I made than I did with this picture
August 20, 2024 at 9:32 pm #2087393"... a monkey picked up a sharp rock and found it easier to use as a tool for opening a potato chip bag."
Was it this flavour Adam?
You are right about the racecar analogy... "use it or lose it". It's been 18 months since I've fired up DS and I think I've forgotten a lot over that time. Like riding a bike you never really forget how to, but I certainly wouldn't be a quick and efficient as I use to be. Faced with a constant onslaught of information, our brains have to prioritise what information to hold on to. The RAM chips in our brains have a limited capacity.August 20, 2024 at 9:37 pm #2087394Ruffles are ridged for your pleasure
August 20, 2024 at 10:32 pm #2087398They say patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel, I'd say sexual innuendo is the last refuge of advertising. We're getting a bit OT 🙂 .

Famous translation from last known Neanderthal cave drawings.
August 21, 2024 at 1:12 pm #2087455All this modern tech is all crap, let's all revert to preschool stage, and use crayons 😉
