The actual question in here is for sellers, especially on Renderosity and the like, though other people can weigh in.
I always want to post my artwork, but don’t on official sites if I’ve gotten content here, for obvious reasons. I kind of always worry about posting artwork even elsewhere and still haven’t added my art to Deviant Art and things but want to, but I’ve been thinking. I don’t think you have to worry so much about Daz3D, because they sell their products in such high volumes I highly doubt there is a chance that they are going to see artwork and be like hey that person doesn’t own this item. Independent artists I’m not so sure - and I should say, I do purchase content when I can afford it and if it’s something I use a lot, especially if it’s not from Daz3D. I fall into the category of I tend to buy stuff, mess with it, then never render anything or end up using the renders and have lost a lot of money. Easier to try it out first. Anyway...I’m starting to think it’s quite likely that no one would even check for instance Renderosity galleries unless perhaps someone sold only a handful of a product to even notice if a lot more people made art than bought the product. I think I may have broached the subject of artwork posting years ago. Anyway, back to my ACTUAL question, if you sell 3D content, does it actually tell you who bought it or just how many you sold?
Does anyone here actually post on official sites? I was thinking of even just making a different throwaway account to use. Why do I care? I would like to start getting some feedback on my art, and I don’t necessarily feel comfortable posting it here because it does connect me to downloading stuff. I’m also careful and worry about posting for help on forums when I have content in the renders.
May 24, 2021 at 4:04 pm #1695388You'd be better off having a separate account. I mainly post on Deviant Art under different names (one for NSFW, one for vanilla). I don't use this name anywhere else.
May 31, 2021 at 3:18 pm #1697410I have a different Daz username than I have for other sites and for discord discord. That way Daz doesn't know very easily who I am elsewhere online. Honestly, I don't think Daz cares too much unless you start making a lot of money on stuff you didn't pay for.
Also, I do purchase things from Daz and other sites if I am going to use the item more than a few times or if I really like the creator's work. However, I don't see the point of spending $30+ when I'm using one tiny part of a pack or bundle once for one render.
As much as I hate subscription services, such as what Adobe does with creative cloud or Microsoft does with Office 365, I sometimes wish Daz had a subscription service for access to most of the stuff sold on their site. I'm just not sure how they would handle paying the independent artists.
June 2, 2021 at 4:00 am #1698719Agree with the above. I wouldn't use the same username, but there's probably no way for a seller to figure out whether you did or did not pay for the content in your art.
June 24, 2021 at 3:32 am #1705357Ok yeah I intend to use different name (and different a from the accounts I do buy stuff with), I just wanted to actually post the stuff elsewhere and stop freaking out. I also think a subscription could potentially be cool, but at the same time, it would probably be so much money I could never afford it..l

@ OP - post under whatever.
I remember a few years ago a couple of content creators on Renderosity would go to the trouble of pestering anybody they didn't think bought the item they sold, but found that they quickly got told to eff off. I hadn't heard of anyone being harassed like that ever since.
Truth is, most of your bigger sellers won't care, because they find it easier to scour Mega or whatever and issue DMCA takedown requests directly. The only sellers who would bother with bothering individual artists are the small-time sellers. They're the ones whose volume is so low that they can almost directly track who bought what.
Personally, Put up a pseudonym and post away. If anyone demands to see anything from you, tell them to bugger off. They can't do anything about it, and sites like Rendo won't really care too much.
June 24, 2021 at 6:55 pm #1705493Like @pooper said, the small-time sellers would be the one's you have to watch out for. For example, if only one person bought their product but somehow they see 10 different user accounts use their product, you all would be in trouble.
As far as I know, the broker sites hold identifiable data while the vendors only see how many customers bought what; they don't see the usernames or transaction IDs. Again, look at the Privacy Policy or T.O.S for these websites.
Technically, these sellers could demand transaction information but you can just say you prefer your privacy and have a right to privacy.
