Regarding uninstalling and deleting......unfortunately too late.
Fingers crossed, in any caseOctober 12, 2024 at 4:15 am #2095172Well, I have unistalled the plugin through DIM, deleted the files from the DIM folder, the .dll from the plugin folder and the related files in the "resources" folder. After restarting everything there was no trace of the plugin neither in DAZ nor in DIM, and I've also checked my DAZ account to see whether the typed serial appeared there. Fortunately, it doesn't.
But, guess what? I have now copied manually the plugin to the right folder and it´s still registered, so I suppose DAZ somehow remembers that the plugin is valid, but it remembers it just locally. Also, DIM does not detect it anymore, so I feel quite safer.
To be extra sure I have also manually installed Gescon and typed the serial, but DIM does not recognize it and the serial does not get detected in my DAZ account. I understand this as good news, because I´ve seen some cool stuff (like Gescon) I´m really eager to install.
Thank you very much.
October 12, 2024 at 4:26 am #20951751 - Yes, I downloaded it from here.
2 - I installed it through DIM, as the file instructions prompted me to do.I don't understand this,
October 12, 2024 at 4:35 am #2095177I mean, the downloaded file had some instructions with it, which says literally "Install in DIM. Checkout your path for Daz Studio 4 if is different to C:\Program Files\DAZ 3D\DAZStudio4."
October 12, 2024 at 4:45 am #2095179They must have dropped the "IM00NNNNN-0N_<product name>.zip" file acquired from here into the DIM downloads folder which would have caused DIM to automatically create the dsx file UPON NEXT LAUNCH of DIM itself.
DIM would then have offered them the prompt to install the product which they gladly followed.
This is the fundamental functionality of DIM OFFLINE product installations.
That said, I see two possible circumstances where DIM could be notifying the Daz servers (upon login) about installed products that are visible to it.
a) Checking for updates for those products based upon the last installed date (if any).
b) Checking for the purchase date of the product. This is from the Sort Order by Order Date functionality. Since the DIM archive does not contain this date information, it will query the server to retrieve it for each product to render that sort functionality.
In either case, the server at Daz can detect if the product is in the customer's account while trying to fulfill that request.
October 12, 2024 at 12:45 pm #2095225Bro, you overreacted. Adobe gets hacked all the time. They have a full subcription-based service and millions to throw at anti-piracy and they can't stop it and you never hear about them going after anyone. DAZ is a dwarf in this arena. I don't know of anyone who has been tracked down by DAZ for anything after more than 15 years of doing this. Don't let the trolls scare you. Like eelgoo said, if you're that paranoid about it, do manual installs of all the content and stop using DIM.
October 12, 2024 at 1:37 pm #2095229Unless they decide to make someone an example.......
Speaking for myself, would not look good on the "perp walk"October 12, 2024 at 1:51 pm #2095232Dim sucks anyway, I got my own "system", so I would still have to move files and folders around.
Most of the zips are:
Content
- Data
- Runtime
- People-- generation X
--- Character ( or clothing, prop , etc)
How hard can it be to do this by hand?
October 12, 2024 at 2:02 pm #2095236That depends how complex your library layout is.
🙂
October 12, 2024 at 2:09 pm #2095237@ulysses is completely right. Everything is hacked and shared and no one ever gets charged. Some of the people reselling streaming services are being caught and jailed in Europe, but they're operating illegal services that make millions. Hackers and file sharers are small time and cost the companies almost nothing. They know damn well that file sharers wouldn't be buying the items anyways AND it's been shown that the folks who buy (like me) will buy it regardless if it's available here.
The other point is that it costs tens of thousands to prosecute someone and the payoff is nothing since everyone else will continue to pirate, they'll just be a little more careful about it. Suing(SP?) someone in another country is out of the question for anyone but a company with hugely deep pockets...and that's not Daz or Tafi. Companies like to make threats. These scare off newbies, but are ignored by the more experienced and knowledgeable.
When I see someone asking the exact same question here and in say, Daz's forums AND using the same name?....they're the one's getting banned, and even though the company will now know who this person is, these people are NEVER sued or charged in any way, they're just banned.October 12, 2024 at 2:36 pm #2095241It would cost an ENORMOUS amount of money to arrest and take you down. Then if they lock you up, many times more money to house and feed you, etc... all for some crap that cost less than $20 usually. If it ever did happen the joke is on them. So it wont happen. Would cost more just to cover the wages of the officers who simply knock on your door than the item is worth!
Besides, the feds are too busy with their hands full running cover for corrupt politicians breaking constitutional laws. They have no time for you.

Libs are laid out in a logical ( for me) order. Clothing has subcategories , 116 folders and adding the odd folder sometime.
Logic is the same for all Characters
So Say I need a short summerdress for G8:
CLothes/People/Genesis 8 female/Clothes/dress/short/summer
( Clothes being top folder)
As long as the logic makes sense to the user.... It ain't stupid if it functions 😉October 12, 2024 at 4:54 pm #2095256Oh, I think I've been slightly misunderstood; I am not afraid of being sued or anything like that. I just didn't want to risk my account being banned. That is what was worrying me (not anymore).
October 12, 2024 at 5:12 pm #2095259As I said in the Manual Install Sticky, if it makes sense & works for you, then object achieved.
🙂
