DOES EVERYONE LOVE OR HATE GENESIS 9?
I've noticed some things, other than the usual - women's stuff is instantly shared, but male stuff is taking forever or just isn't shared for some reason.
I'm under the impression watching a big change in Daz's attitude toward loyal customers.. it's almost like a "fuck you for being so dumb to be loyal to us" attitude.
In the past, when Daz had a major release of a new generation of Genesis figures, they had Loyalty Discounts given to those of us who bought anywhere from 3-5 previous big releases, male or female. And we got an additional 25-30% off on top of the release of a new bundle.
Recently I noticed that the new Bundles are all over $150.00 and are even with Daz++ still over $130.00 and that isn't including texture extras or extra items like weapons if they were not included in the main MEGA Bundle.
I own 90% of all Daz main released characters, bundles, and figures, both MALE and FEMALE and CREATURE. And with Genesis 9, I noticed this form of deal - Daz offered me all the previous pro bundles for every generation of Genesis male that came out -- GREAT I OWN THEM ALL ALREADY.
I may be a pirate but this stuff comes from somewhere, and I've been around for 2 decades collecting and sharing stuff with others, and buying things. I could have bought a Lamborghini for what I spent at Daz on assets over and over again. Here's the proof:
And Daz's stacking most times doesn't work.
I also bought only the Bachelors Bundle because the price was almost $40.00 and then yesterday suddenly the Bachelor and Bachelorette bundles in a compiled bundle are now together $17.95 !!! I paid $21.00 for just the Bachelors Bundle because i wanted the guys, hair and clothing from it (I don't do females much and can wait for Zone to give me those).
Now I'm waiting on the Keepin' It Casual Mega Bundle (https://www.daz3d.com/michael-keepin-it-casual-mega-bundle) - and it's been several days since it dropped in the Daz Store and NADA.
We have some pieces of it, so I am piecing it together myself from what is shared individually. I have bought two hairstyles and a pose set in that bundle before so I am piecing things together. The Yacht Bundle thing dropped all 3 pieces in the Blog so I added that to the Mega Bundle, but still am missing pieces of it.
I'm wondering if Daz has forgotten that 90% of its customer base are people at-home hobbyists who spend what little money they have on their assets to make artwork with, and we are NOT Elon Musk or Jeff Bezos.
What do you guys think of this? We have been talking about it on our Discord, but some of you aren't on our Discord so I thought I'd ask you guys here.
Cheers

Ouch.
I'm done 'upgrading'. Genesis 8 was my last gen character. I felt that way even before they released Genesis 9 because ever since Genesis 2 they have slowly been going downhill. Removing polycount, forcing people to pay extra for even the most basic anatomy, and honestly creating the same character designs they have been for over 10 years now. Everything is just cut and paste with less, less, less improvements (Remember the days when clothes and hair used to have morphs/intricate rigging and not just rely on a very fickle dforce).
Sure the texture maps are 8K now but who cares.. I can do that with a click of a button in any upscale program. Sure the bends are better but not such a huge difference to ask me to buy all new characters, hair, clothes, poses, expressions, etc.
Sure there will be the creators that actually put in the work to design new and exciting things but those creators are FAR AND IN BETWEEN the norm. Plus a lot of those true artists end up leaving daz products because of us pirates.. 😛
Yes.. yes, I feel bad for those that want the 'next big thing' and I feel bad for people where this cycle has become the norm and addictive for them. In that way, I feel sorry for you Anja.
The truth is, complaining about it fixes nothing. Abstaining is the only way to break this bad business practice. That is exactly what I am going to do by not buying anymore DAZ affiliated products.
I wish you the best, though. Take care!
November 27, 2022 at 9:57 pm #1894977Don't hate it and I'd like to like G9 but there's nothing in it for me. In fact its incompatibility with G8 and new UVs make it much harder to work with.
November 27, 2022 at 9:59 pm #1894978yeah I'm not touching g9 most of the stuff I have is made for g8 only and people are still making g8 characters. as for the problem with price this happens everywhere if you buy a game at full price they will have it for half the amount you payed for it a year later with more content.
November 27, 2022 at 10:17 pm #1894996I actually do love it because I'm looking for photorealism, and the results I've been getting, even with G3 morphs converted to G9, have been amazing.
And that's just by using the base G9 skin shaders.
Ivan 7 HD For Genesis 9 HD
I think the results speak for themselves.
Is it perfect? No. There are still a lot of things missing, but hopefully, we'll get there.
November 27, 2022 at 10:56 pm #1895002Not buying into it. And I love how they are trying to convince people by pushing out G8 to G9 scripts instead of making the two figures compatible out of the gate.
Also, per the image above, they have not fixed that horrendous bending/stretching or the lack of, that has plaqued the upper torso area in their models. Just look at the way the chest muscles and the shoulder muscles do not seem connected and do not move as they should. It's why I try not to do any really prevalent bends with the upper torso unless I am ready to do a whole heck of a lot of post work to make it look right. Apologies, but he just looks like he's got saggy pectoral muscles. And play-doh instead of skin and muscles where his arms join his torso.
One would think that for such a revolutionary figure, those obvious mistakes would be something that they would tackle.
Sure, sure, with the help of other programs or scripts one can fix that problem. But how much will they charge for that? Lol
G9 is just slightly upgraded skin on a mesh that hardly fixes the G8/8.1 problems and I honestly don't see the reason to upgrade.
November 28, 2022 at 10:11 am #1895084I don't hate it, I just wish it had been done better.
I see the same problem with Genesis 9 as Genesis 1.
By and large what I have seen out of it so far, is butch ladies & effete blokes.
Sure it is great for those that like cross gender & fantasy beasts.
My preferred usage is clothed & nude full body single renders.
It seems also that Daz has favoured focussing on head portraiture, to the detriment of the remainder of the model.
Detailing issues, joint issues & not linking pectorals to a raised arm pose? Really???
With G8.1F we have a proven base, with a lot of resources & good performance for my requirements.
I hope merchants will continue to support Genesis 8, at least until they make significant improvements to G9, preferably offering G9.1F & G9.1M base.Until then, I am hoping for a script to convert the better Genesis 9 products to G8.1.

November 28, 2022 at 12:31 pm #1895122I mostly do not care for G9 yet. I really, really do like the highly detailed skin textures though and expect to convert my existing characters at last. These are neither butch ladies nor effete blokes, as eelgoo fears. I think this problem can be easily avoided as long as you choose the right character morphs.
However the biggest problem at least for now is the lack of addictional content from clothing to tools. This will take probably more years than months to come on par with the G8(.1) stuff. And I am not convinced that DAZ will be around for that long anymore. I agree that G9 screams of the desperate attempt to make some quick money.
November 28, 2022 at 12:52 pm #1895136I’m under the impression watching a big change in Daz’s attitude toward loyal customers.. it’s almost like a “fuck you for being so dumb to be loyal to us” attitude.
DAZ was always about the money from the day they arrived on the 3D scene, just email any PA willing to reply and be honest about that. I did and got the answer I expected.
G9 is OK for that more organic look but that's as far as it goes. It's still broken in places and the lack of textures for both male and female since launch has made me put G9 on hold for the forseeable future. I don't need clothing as most G8 stuff fits already and looks the same anyway.
November 28, 2022 at 5:13 pm #1895207Not enough change for me to invest financially, and too much of a difference from 8.1 (G3-8.1 UV's and morphs don't work) for me to invest creatively.
I have a laundry list of things I want that I'm willing to pay for, that they're not going to tackle anytime soon in either their UI or Genesis releases (real-time weight simulation while posing, better hair along the lines of Maya's XGEN, multi-channel textures for more variety of body areas like hands and palms separate, and so on). As these are not what it's built for, I can't say that I hate them for it. But as an update from the last gen, so far its a bit "meh".
I'll still attempt to try converting some of my personal 8.1 characters to it, but it's not a big priority for me at the moment. When and if they offer a substantial leap beyond what they have now, I'll jump back into their storefront for it.
For now, IMO its just another company making a minimal upgrade to a product that has reached its saturation point, so we can invest into a new library. There's no difference between DAZ, Apple, Sony, or whatever.
November 28, 2022 at 10:39 pm #1895276Well, Sony do not usually put out a broken product. :0/
November 28, 2022 at 11:00 pm #1895278@ruckous1370 I suspect that there will be a D.Master product soon to somehow fix the problem. I think there was also a SWOLE product that was dedicated to big muscle positional fixes.
Unfortunately, without dedicated fix morphs specific to each model for various body positions, you are not going to ever get perfect results.
So, it's not really a failure of G9, but rather a limitation of 3d graphics. Just look at what's needed to get anatomically perfect results. I suspect that daz character models would cost a lot more if they had that kind of detail:
Also, consider that my picture actually depicts a G3 model with a rather large size of muscles converted to G9, and using a G8 pose, and the focus was to display the skin.
November 29, 2022 at 12:42 am #1895287@Legolas18 Yes, but that is the figure that I am looking for. One that has anatomical details that make the figure look good and unlike putty. Not a simple change in the definition of the skin texture.
By now I was hoping that Daz would have moved on from making their new models just a slight iteration of the one before, but here we are. It isn't like they are making models for a video game or a movie that are going to be used once, they are out there pushing realistic 3D human models that have, in all honestly, changed very little from years before.
If they are going to continue to throw out a new "figure" every few years that is not the least bit compatible with their previous versions they need to have a figure that is going to stand on it's own. This figure just seems like a desperate release to get people to jump back in and buy everything anew. I'm not falling for it, give me a natural looking model that looks nice instead of better defined skin textures alone and then I'm interested.
Please do not think that I meant to disregard your render in any way, I only pointed out the one thing in the picture that has burned me since M4. It's that whole upper torso, I just cannot get past how it always bends that way.
December 1, 2022 at 2:20 am #1896008I postponed my criticism of the new generation - until Josie 9 came out ...... According to past generations, this should have happened in January-February ......
Yesterday I took a day off from the computer.....
....
Here is the official render - the model I was waiting for:
My first reaction - I got up and went to the mirror, with a magnifying glass..... I'm a pensioner - I'm sooooo old.... My skin looks better - than this one.... I woke up a friend of the doctor - asking for a comment. ... He does not know such diseases ..... This is the 8k detailing promised to us ????
.....
I am staying with 8.1. With the help of zbrush, I transferred several characters from v4 - I can also transfer from g9 ....December 1, 2022 at 5:29 am #1896037Josie 9 doesn't come with its own 8K normals but I bet the PA used the standard G9 ones because that skin looks like sandpaper. Pushing the high subD and 8K maps as the main (only) selling points for G9's "fantastic realism" seems misguided when we see things like this. Josie's supposed to be a toon/anime character anyway so I have no idea why Daz is trying to make her hyper-realistic in the first place.
