I tried to install Mesh Grabber but I don't see it anywhere in Daz. It's supposed to show up in the tools, or at least in "about plugins". It's just not there.
I downloaded this :
Which didn't work so I got this :
Which didn't work either, and doesn't seem to have the "dim" install, whatever that's supposed to be. Just the same DLL as the other one. Does mesh grabber no longer work with 4.20 ?Anybody know how to get it to work ?
Thanks ahead !June 9, 2022 at 3:39 pm #1817777Read the manual. It's literally explained on page 1! 🙂
June 9, 2022 at 4:15 pm #1817788Assuming you installed the .dll to the plugins folder correctly
and entered the serial*, you'll have to show the Tool Settings pane and put the tool icon in the toolbar.
Working fine in 4.20.0.17:
*lol now I remember, MeshGrabber needs no serial :p
June 9, 2022 at 6:23 pm #1817861@Legolas18 : I obviously read the manual before posting here. I wouldn't dare bother you guys for nothing.
@Amberkat : The MF_meshgrab.dll is in the plugins folder. But there's no way to enter a serial because it does not show up in the "about installed plugins". It's just not there. I used to have the plugin installed and working, but had to reinstall Daz because of a disk failure. I'm doing the exact same thing as I did before. The only difference is the Daz version. Daz just isn't seeing the file for some reason. I'm thinking either the file downloaded here is no longer working with 4.20 or it now has to be installed with DIM.June 9, 2022 at 7:08 pm #1817876Ok, it finally popped up in my tools ! I just started dropping the file everywhere 'DAZ' is mentionned in any folder of my PC. Last one being C:\Daz 3D\Applications\64-bit, which I never even used or was aware existed, and that did it. Problem solved. Thanks for your help guys. <3
June 9, 2022 at 9:56 pm #1817901Software is a precise thing, it is never a good idea to "voodoo shoot" anything like that.
There is precisely one location where that file can be read by Studio, and that is
<wherever you install Programs>\DAZ 3D\DAZStudio4\plugins\MF_meshgrab.dllFortunaltely Daz is pretty resilient and dropping that file anywhere else will not hurt anything, but it won't help anything either.
so, 1- Place the file.
2- Start Daz
3- Help -> About Installed Plugins... verify MeshGrabber is present, checked, and green iconIf you tried it when Daz was running, it needs to be re-started to pick up the plugin.
If the dll is in correct place, and not shown in the list, double-check it is the correct file, or not corrupt. (filename won't break it and can literally be anything, but internal wreckage will make a plugin "invisible")Also, if you have multiple installations, make sure you put it in the correct one!
June 10, 2022 at 4:12 am #1817963I know that, but I had to install my files on a new drive, so nothing is default location. The thing is it "should've" picked it up at the place I put it. It just didn't. Yes softwares are precise but coders aren't. You can't always know for sure where things are unless you coded it yourself, and sometimes what they tell you in a manual is actually wrong on your system, or depends on defaults installs.
The default location for this file didn't exist on my computer. I had to create it, and it still didn't work. The place I put it in, where it worked, I found in DIM "64-bit software installs to :". That's where it worked, no other place, not the one pointed out by the manual, not my custom install, not some other locations suggested by people on the official forums.
Sometimes you just have to try things that weren't told to you. 🙂
October 30, 2022 at 6:59 am #1883690how do i make the icon be in the topmost tools "panel"?
October 30, 2022 at 12:26 pm #1883925@Project5 It should be there if you installed it properly.
Edit: Or if you mean to add it to the top tools, you go window > workspace > customize (or F3)
And then just drag it to where you want it.October 31, 2022 at 8:54 pm #1884547im having trouble installing mesh grabber. when i install manually the plugin turns red and i cant with DIM because it says failed download. help plz
November 1, 2022 at 11:08 am #1884712You have to put it in the right folder. I had trouble with that too because my library and installation location are not default. This is my path that works :
E:/My Daz/Applications/64-bit/DAZ 3D/DAZStudio4/plugins/MF_meshrot.dll
So not the library, you need to find the installation location :
- open DIM
- left-click the little cog wheel in the top right corner and select advanced settings
- You should see your install location under the downloads, installations and applications tabs. If they're different, just drop the mesh grabber files in all of them where there's a plugins folder. Overkill, but it worked for me.Hope that helps, good luck. 🙂
EDIT : Forgot about this, another way of knowing for sure where your plugins go is to go into DAZ and click help > about installed plugins from the top menu. Click on any plugin and it will give you the location below.
November 1, 2022 at 4:27 pm #1884787What did you do with the manifest and supplement files? Even the mesh grabber.dsx?
November 1, 2022 at 8:29 pm #1884872The Manifest and dsx files are just for DAZ install. The only thing you need is the dll file.
This is true for like 99% of all the plugin's The dll is all you need. -
