I think you might just need to rotate the HDRI a bit, to make sure everyone gets some proper shadows, I mean the dog is so illuminated it looks flat 
The alternation of shadows and light is the trick to give the illusion of more depth to characters 
Other than that, you could use the DoF variant of that HDRI to get a proper DoF in the image, (typically, DoF doesn't work too well with HDRIs, but these ones were specifically designed to overcome that limitation). As far as I remember these HDRIs also come with predefined cameras
