So apparently DS5 is entering beta soon, but it looks like it will break scripts. It also looks like it will still allow manual install, so no authentications (hopefully). I'm confused about Iray though. Is NVidia dropping it or not? I'm also concerned about how backwards compatible DS5 will be with existing characters.
Good news it that we don't have to upgrade and can keep on using 4.5 for the time being. But if nvidia does drop Iray I hope that means 4.5 users aren't fucked.

I'm certain DAZ would have mentioned if Nvidia were pulling out or not.
Can't see any reason why they would since it's another cash cow for them.AMD support and a Linux version of DS 5 would be a step in the right direction.
Prepare to be amazed and disappointed at the same time..
July 8, 2021 at 1:39 am #1709458My biggest hope is soft body physics like ragdolls which would make posing much easier. But somehow I don't think it will be that big of an upgrade. Probably mostly performance improvements. Maybe a more user friendly UI.
July 8, 2021 at 1:48 am #1709460It's because it's built using the Qt framework and the version Studio uses (4) is hopelessly out of date and unsupported. I don't think there will be anything new at launch in version 5 per se, but it will at least have an underlying framework that is supported and can be further developed, unlike now!
If it were me running Daz, I'd be asking the dev team to be working on integrating Blender's open source Cycles renderer and maybe talking to the Blender team about disentangling the Eevee render engine from Blender itself for animation (not a trivial task!). It's got to be in their interests to support the huge user base of AMD GPUs and and and and.... AMD cards are far more generous with VRAM than their Nvidia counterparts at the same price point. Cycles runs far better on Nvidia Cuda GPUs than AMD units, but it does at least run.
If Nvidia does drop Iray (although I couldn't find anything to confirm that) it would still work as is in 4.x.
Now... here's the potential good news for Linux peops - https://doc.qt.io/qt-5/supported-platforms.html
Whether or not Daz decide to compile (and support - that's probably the main issue) a Linux build is something else entirely, but it's possible to produce a native version.

I'd actually love for Blender to have Iray support. That way you can transfer daz scenes into blender and render them without problem.
July 8, 2021 at 1:53 am #1709462The thing that concerns most DS users is backwards compatibility. And the fact that Daz_Rawb has said that Daz 4 will be still available for download for the "foreseeable future" after DS5, something they're never done before, suggests that things like plug-ins and scripts will be broken.
One would hope things go smoothly but given the record of Daz with their completely inept site upgrade, DMR, NFT, product encryption, etc, etc. that will be a long shot.July 8, 2021 at 1:55 am #1709464Yeah, plugin creators like Zev0 will probably have to recode their work from scratch. Thankfully they are quite active and it's almost a sure thing.
MY big fear is that this will botch geograft models like all the genitals from Renderotica. Because that would be a nightmare.

Yup, that'd be great too! The more options the better but I do think Daz are shooting themselves in the foot (and wallet) by excluding AMD owners.
Also, Cycles supports out-of-core rendering so people who don't have the latest and greatest (and unavailable) Nvidia offerings can still at least use the GPU albeit with a slower memory transfer rate.
July 8, 2021 at 2:26 am #1709477I can't see anything suggesting NVIDA dropping Iray. Gamers wouldn't care but the DS crowd would be shitting themselves after paying usury prices for their 30XXs LOL.
July 8, 2021 at 5:25 am #1709491Interesting. Will read more about it, but likely what I'm hearing at the moment.
July 8, 2021 at 7:19 am #1709500Iray is releasing new features regulary (vdb support was on of the last just a few weeks ago), i don't think they will drop it.
Plugin developers won't need to recode everything as far as I know, they just have to recompile.
I also don't think, there are any shiny new features at first, but hope QT5 will bring some performance improvements to the UI. Studio is so slow these times.
Personaly I would love to see a real bridge between Studio and Blender, so I can make changes in Daz and only the changes are transfered to Blender with materials etc. still intact.
July 8, 2021 at 7:41 am #1709502No details of proposed features were mentioned in the announcement.
The only positive point the OP raised, & he asked for a drum roll for it (need a roll eyes smiley here), was that it is viable on Mac.WTF!
Wait until you have some detail before you make a 'Big' announcement!
FFS!

July 8, 2021 at 9:26 am #1709514So will they cut down on loading times?
will they support amd cards?
will the program itself be lighter?
will they fix the foldering system so amateurs can install rendo products easy?
will they support multicore proccesors?
Will they make animation-ing easier?
I read the thread on the forums and the only thing that i saw was that daz 5 is coming and will support linux or mac or something. Why not wait until you have something to say instead of just saying daz5 is coming. sometimes i wonder how the big heads over there work
July 8, 2021 at 9:52 am #1709517Yes it's very strange behaviour for them to announce something 6 months before it comes out and without any details other than the Mac thing. They usually just say here it is without any notice. Perhaps they're trying to soften the blow of broken plug-ins and scripts and other things.
July 8, 2021 at 10:06 am #1709519' will they fix the foldering system so amateurs can install rendo products easy? '
It really isn't that difficult.
