Requests get filled and the number of downloads will be however many people requested the item (give or take a couple either way). Once something hits the blog, as you observed, it gets a couple of dozen d/l's before it gets shared on one of the leech sites and then downloads here dry up. 5 or 6 years ago, some shares would get 200 downloads or more here and sharers would still be getting points months (or sometimes years) after they shared. Now, it lasts days (or hours) and then it's off to L3d or RS for most folks.
October 17, 2024 at 5:04 pm #2096234If their wasn't a point system most DLs would stay here and bogus accounts would dry up.
The points system seems to mostly work since people are after points and its an incentive for some reason. I think for mostly new members. People that are in the level 3+ maybe even 2 range have no need for points. People that frequently share or share one pumped-up item will get more points than they'll ever spend.
When I was rolling in points I DLed almost the entire site then started running contests and even then I didn't have half of what some people have. Now I'll usually offer points for items I want or think Ill use. Other items Ill get from other sites just to have them. Ive started to get picky since I use about 1% or less of what I actually download.

Just PM " Guy Axworthy " with the link for the uploaded files, he'll do the rest.

"Once something hits the blog, as you observed, it gets a couple of dozen d/l's before it gets shared on one of the leech sites and then downloads here dry up. 5 or 6 years ago, some shares would get 200 downloads or more here and sharers would still be getting points months (or sometimes years) after they shared."
This is why I love, love, LOVE doing custom stuff. The leech sites usually don't touch it (none of my stuff has shown up anywhere but here), and people tend to snap it up for at least 3-6 months later here and there before it finally peters down to no downloads.
I think it's because a lot of custom homemade stuff tends to suck, which is why the leech sites avoid it. But, if you do a decent job of it, the downloads happen for a real long time. I'm about to toy around with uploading some more toonish figures (but this time in G3, and maybe a G9 or two), and as custom figures, I don't think any of the leech sites will bother with those either.

That's definitely a thought: will read up on torrenting and file hosting. Currently am using bunkrrr and haven't heard any complaints about the links.
October 25, 2024 at 11:45 am #2097569will read up on torrenting and file hosting
Reading your comment makes me chuckle and realize just how fast the net has moved in the short ~30 years that it's been available to regular folks. I first got online in the mid 90's and immediately stumbled into the granddaddy of file sharing, the usenet. Unbelievably it's still around and busier than ever, although these days you need to pay for a provider. There's a usenet group for Poser that's still somewhat active and might be an alternative if we get desperate. The need to pay 10 bucks a month (or so) for a provider plus having to learn how it works will keep the leeches out.
Torrents started and made file sharing easy and much more accessible to non-nerds (unlike the usenet). Torrents are still crazy popular and are the main venue for sharing porn and movies. TPB (The Pirate Bay) has been around since the late Cretaceous period and continues to thumb it's nose at all attempts to take it down. There's even a Poser/Daz discussion group there...

The only drawback to using torrents is the need to host the file somewhere. 'Seedboxes' are available for a modest price if the bandwidth requirements are not high. I host some torrents on my own computer but see few downloads as it's somewhat obscure stuff.October 25, 2024 at 12:03 pm #2097571A torrent file does not weigh much, IF I am the first uploader, files are send directly from my pc, but as more people get the torrent filled, and seed as well, traffic goes down. If you care about bandwidth, you could even move the file so there is no more traffic from your end . ( that is my personal experience, don;t know if it is an "official" explanation..

Turns out I'm already signed up and the last time I logged on was 2022Will get all the files together this week
October 26, 2024 at 7:40 pm #2097918Premier would be a total waste of time & money for me too.
I haven't subscribed, because nothing about it appeals to me.:0/
October 30, 2024 at 3:35 am #2098734@lzzz Thanks; Just heard back from Guy Axworthy
Will work on creating torrents for The Zone: I figure having 2 repositories for earlier versions of Studio can only benefit Daz users.
