... so this will be the next shit show. Almost $20 per month for some additional discounts, improved exporters and essentially the included Mesh Grabebr tool.
Sit back and enjoy the rage. Cookies, anyone?
October 7, 2024 at 8:41 am #2094435Yes, so now they have two elite tiers.
Why not just upgrade the first elite tier, to keep it simple?
Their marketing is always complex & confusing.
They would probably get a lot more sales if they just kept it simple enough so that folks could easily understand it!

October 7, 2024 at 8:58 am #2094443Been reading about a bit tonight. It's a mess - considering the issue that yearly memberships won't be available anymore. I don't like the idea on monthly subscriptions. I try to avoid them where ever I can online. I'll decide next year if I'll continue with mine or wait and see what happens. Daz+ will cost $50 more per year, if I continue. Makes it worse when I convert into Australian dollars.
October 7, 2024 at 9:42 am #2094463For me there just aren't sufficient good quality on topic releases at Daz that actually come close to making either Daz elite membership even worth considering. :0/
October 7, 2024 at 10:50 am #2094470Of course they had to lock the most requested plugin, a Genesis 1,2,3,8/8.1 to Genesis 9 converter behind the DAZ Premier subscription.
EDIT: turns out to be one of ManFriday’s plugins. They literally took his plugins and bundled it into DAZ Studio Premier.
October 7, 2024 at 11:41 am #2094473AI is the reason why they’re going down this route. They are losing so much cash that they’re desperately wanting it back.
The bundles were outrageously expensive even after they stopped using FOMO tactics for the extra shapes, so of course they stopped selling new ones.
The PAs leaving in droves is another reason why they’ve been picking up Renderosity vendors. And I don’t think it’ll be long before they move back to other marketplaces.
DAZ is in a full freefall (thanks VCs) and seeing that Unreal Engine is getting a built in character creator tool is probably putting DAZ back even further into irrelevancy
October 7, 2024 at 11:41 am #2094474We'd all better keep our copies of Studio since Daz can't have much time left as it slides into the toilet called 'enshitification'. The thread in Daz's forums has nothing good to say. Score another loss for Tafi.
October 7, 2024 at 11:44 am #2094475@Ethiopia I wouldn’t be surprised if 4.22 will be the last “free” and offline version of DAZ Studio since from what’s happening, version 4.23 will probably have a fully online release with no offline functionality, especially with the upcoming AI character creation tool…
October 7, 2024 at 12:34 pm #2094478Nor me.
I think it is time to back up your preferred version of DS before it disappears.

October 7, 2024 at 12:40 pm #2094479@eelgoo,
Someone mentioned here a while back that we could find ourselves being the repository or archive for
all the Daz/Poser stuff when the companies finally go under because they've been stupid.October 7, 2024 at 12:42 pm #2094480TBH I think that is more than likely.
October 7, 2024 at 1:00 pm #2094484@tetera, I don't think it's going to work that way. I believe that you'll need to be logged into their servers to access the premiere services since they'll exist ONLY on the servers. It'll work much like the existing AI generators.
October 7, 2024 at 1:18 pm #2094488No way I will ever use DS on line.
Never have never will.
October 7, 2024 at 1:32 pm #2094494Have belonged to Daz for over 17 years.
With what I have purchased (and stolen) if I dollar average...I come out
ahead.
If they will let me pay a year up front I will subscribe (will contact them)
Now
Mentioned this in another thread.
When you use Daz Install Manager (I don't, except for the following)
it actually installs the files to a default section of your computer.
So if you were to update or install a new version, the actual file is
there. Merely copying and pasting these files will provide a backup.
In Windows 10 the location if these files is:
C>Users>Public>Public Documents>Daz 3D>InstallManager>Downloads.
As a side note goz plugins are also there.
You only have to do it once.......insurance.
By the way these files take up space, it is not a bad idea
to copy then somewhere elseOctober 7, 2024 at 1:39 pm #2094495Sub? I dumped Adobe products when they went to a sub, so I'm for damn sure not going to pay for a DAZ sub. I have decades (literally, decades!) worth of content to fall back on, a huge stockpile of ancient Poser stuff I can up-convert, and (admittedly random) backup versions of DAZ Studio going back for years now (and as long as Windows keeps a compatibility mode going in the future that can reach down to W11, they will work for years to come.)
By the way, if you want to stock up on some previous DS versions yourself, here's a good place to pull down a few past versions to your HDD: https://f95zone.to/threads/daz-studio-repository.215178/
Sucks about the converter being locked behind a sub - it's also the first time that I've seen that tactic. Did anyone grab the plugin before it got locked up?
From @scoobydude51 : "Unreal Engine is getting a built in character creator tool"
...ooo! tell me more! (I'll go look, too.) Might be a great place to migrate to if it's extensible enough.
