So, we all know and are familiar with -and either love or love to hate- the DAZ family of figures (Generation 3-4, Genesis-Genesis 8) and they get the lion's share of products made for them.
But what about other figures? The kinds made by other people that either have a sustained presence, or make a minor splash and are quickly forgotten/abandoned in a year's time? I'm talking figures like Star! (pre-Genesis 3), Cookie/Chip (and pretty much all of Littlefox's figures), Sixus' Scarlett, Mavka, and the HiveWire3D family. Do you prefer to or frequently use them yourself?
Out of those, I've been trying to use the HW3D family. I do think they have potential, but they lack a ton of things that have made the Daz figures so appealing and seem like an attempt to appeal to the Generation 4 crowd (which is not a bad thing). The only one I like and use the most is Baby Luna, but that's only because Daz hasn't released a decent baby figure since the Millennium Baby.
Otherwise, to me, HW3D is more "conservative" (not in the political sense; God, please, let's not go down that road) compared to DAZ in that they don't release a shitton of products for the characters every single day. Plus the lack of "helpers" really hurts, IMHO: if SickleYield released products for them, that would go a long way IMHO. But I do appreciate that HW3D strives to have support for both DS and Poser for their products.

TBH I think I would find the lack of clothing for her a pain.

July 5, 2017 at 11:53 am #278600TBH it surprises me that Poser is still around.
Ethiopia is correct that it desperately needs native support for the recent Daz base figures.
They have had numerous attempts to regain momentum, none of which have ever remotely looked as if they were going to succeed.
Their native figures have received negigible support from vendors since the much loved Posette (Poser 4 woman, for latecomers 😉 )
There was a time when it looked as if Dawn was taking off.
For better or worse that soon collapsed, due to patchy support by vendors,
despite being aimed at both Poser & DS.
Recently we have seen a minor resurgence of support from vendors,
but it appears to be more of a reflected wave than an upcoming storm.I disagree with Ethiopia's claim that 'real artists' will move to Blender and the like.
IMO real artists will always play to their strengths, using whatever resources suit their skills and their muse, which isn't necessarily 3D modelling.
For myself, not even approaching being an artist, I am content with playing with DS.
Yes, there is indeed a strong fanboy element for Daz, which they exploit ruthlessly & mercilessly.
Beneath that though, I feel the general direction looks good for fans of ultra-realism.
It is a common thing to hate on Daz, but they are the market leader for hobbyists with good reason.
They feed the need.🙂
July 5, 2017 at 4:58 pm #278742I'm still using V4, ha ha.
There's just too many clothing items, hair-styles and characters available for it; it's hard to switch or move-on.
July 5, 2017 at 7:54 pm #278837Ethiopia: "Daz Fanbois and lemmings"? Pot calling the kettle black, you sometimes come across as a "fanboi" for Poser. I have no horse in the DS vs. PS race, but I just find the way you describe it to be interesting.
