Sorry guys, but it isn't "theft". Here is why:
1. You don't have to re-build the asset every time someone downloads it. You only have to build it once, put it on sale, and forget it.
2. A pirate download is not a lost sale. Very few people who download something from here would buy the item in the first place - they would just download something else, or make it themselves.
3. You lost nothing. A copy of something is merely a copy of it. You still have the original, and no one can take it from you.
4. Too many of your products rip-off the ideas, trademarks, designs, and specific concepts from others anyway, and likely stole the shape and textures too. See also the kajillion poorly-built game and trademark ripoffs that people like 3DUK sell. Vendors like this who complain about piracy are people I have no respect for, and watching them bleat about it here only makes me laugh. "There is no honor among thieves" after all.
5. Don't expect to make a living at this, because technology is passing you by. AI image generation is getting better every day; I'm not yet at the point where I'll make the jump, mostly because of a couple of workflow barriers yet to be broken by AI (character persistence being the biggest). But, I bet that within a year or two those barriers will be broken, and I won't have a need for any new assets, since AI would generate the rendered images or video for me in just a fraction of the time. Consider that consumer-grade CG is almost 30 years old now.
December 16, 2024 at 5:57 pm #2108545Legal trouble? LOL! On a practical level, that possibility ended in 2004. In the age of VPNs and TOR? Aside from the occasional sub-80 IQ newbie, you're not tracing anyone.
Here is a clue: Right now, my IP address is on a beach somewhere in Ecuador, and my MAC address randomizes anyway each time I connect. I can change it to f00c00ff though if you'd like.
Save the scare tactics for the children who don't know any better.
"Would you agree to work 8 hours for a few dollars?"
This is a bad analogy, because you compare income from sales to income from wages, and the two do not compare at all.
A good analogy is the custom characters that I posted here in July of 2022. I spent two hours making and tuning each one, for a total of perhaps 14 hours of work? I got over 120k points for them over two years or so, and if I ever update the thumbnail images and repost, I'd probably make 120k points more with only 30 minutes more of work.
Here's the funny part: Thanks to utility apps and merchant texture resources, there isn't much work at all these days to mold G8F or G9 into something else. People like 3DUK rips off game shapes and textures all the time. Funnier, I bet most similar vendors who sell these game ripoffs are using cracked copies of Wrap and Cinema4D to make their wares (and I will dare say others are also doing things such as converting and modifying Archibase meshes to claim as their own.)
"It's true that with sites like this one, you'll never make enough money to make a living."
Pirate sites have done more marketing for vendors than they have harmed them. Without pirate sites, nobody would even know who half the vendors are. DAZ, Renderosity, and even Renderhub have useless search functions, and they will almost always promote the big-selling vendors over any new unknown ones.
Pirate sites also serve one other purpose. Piracy acts as an archive of assets that are deleted from stores after sales drop below a certain level. Renderosity is notorious for this. It also provides access to items that vendors delete, or even whole stores (like on Patreon) that disappear.
I won't claim nobility, and the idea of intellectual property in the digital age is faulty. It is garbage. My only rationale to buy assets legitimately is to support the store or the vendor who makes good stuff, or to buy something I want badly enough that I cannot otherwise get.
December 16, 2024 at 6:24 pm #2108550I have to agree with you on the last three points. If the vendor makes good products I will want to support them. If they don't it's never used again and they don't see a dime.
December 16, 2024 at 8:02 pm #2108574Here's the thing that I've noticed in past few months:
Some of the vendors actually fill requests here, but don't publish them on blog (anonymous filling).
That way they satisfy max 30ish people who want their item, while their store remains untouched by "piracy", open for business.
Why don't you take that approach @dorothee237 @adrianxo?
Oh, wait, you are an a****les. At this point I'm considering to go to Renderhub forum just to find you and put all of your items in request thread with a starting bounty of 10k for each item, and when I receive them to put them on the blog and consequently out in the wild.
F**k you and have a nice day.
December 16, 2024 at 8:10 pm #2108575There's one vendor who's file system I've had issues with. Deleted the ones I installed and won't install them even if they are free. I won't request anything from them.
Some venders you can layer characters over each other and find little difference. They add a mole and morph the nose and call it different. Some have separate textures already created and added as a separate DL. Just like the gaming industry and micro transactions.

Hurry sale on
(and she is worried about THEFT, if it were free
I would take a pass)Worda.....here is your chance!!!!
December 16, 2024 at 8:32 pm #2108578@anna1945 I'm with you on this one.
This really doesn't deserve anymore of my time. Things that look like 10-year-old made them.
Something that can be made in an hour using Blender or Marvelous Designer.I'm out of this baby cradle.
December 16, 2024 at 9:47 pm #2108594Kinder glad I ignored all of the drama with that yesterday. Better off with that too. Right now I ain't buying anything from any site (been almost a month now).
December 16, 2024 at 10:12 pm #2108596To be fair there's a "couple" ok items but mostly stuff people would give away for free while they are learning/practicing.
I have no use for anything posted there and haven't downloaded anything related to that content.
Like I guessed. A new artist mostly likely young and naive.
December 16, 2024 at 10:33 pm #2108598In fairness, somebody just trying to make a living.
If in her shoes would probably lash out at those
who she feels is denying her, her just due.
But we are not.
Hopefully down the road, her talent (and income) will
improve.
I prefer to steal from the best.
LuckDecember 16, 2024 at 11:01 pm #2108600"Very few people who download something from here would buy the item in the first place"
I reckon that's true @pooper and I would say it would be 95% or more who wouldn't. But if a PA has very low sales that 5% may represent half or more of their overall income from a product. I haven't DL anything for over 2 years but that's for other reasons.... certainly not moral ones or I wouldn't be here.December 16, 2024 at 11:34 pm #2108603Daz pirates are an entry level drug like pot.
AI creators are the Heroin of the pirate world.
December 16, 2024 at 11:59 pm #2108608You're being too kind to AI Adam... how about krokodil?
December 17, 2024 at 12:44 am #2108609honestly everyone who is on the page about AI being a tool rather than a job stealer is right? I use ai to help me with ideas sometimes not as a cheat code most of us using ai for Daz aren't using the images as is we are re shaping the faces made from it into a character?, I have experience in all three types of Daz characters creating a morph using two meshes and wrap3 or using face gen pro also I can sculpt faces from a mesh and create a character that is my own? no you can't get in trouble for using ai art for Daz characters because once it goes from an image to a mesh it's no longer the ai image nor is it the the artist you claim to been ripped off? clearly you don't understand AI, Much like an artist in real life learning from another artist which every artist steals in that sense because there is no artist on earth who hasn't copied someone's style. Ai doesn't rip off artist because it's not taking the persons exact piece word for word and making something that is exactly what that artist did? Nope what it does is it learns like humans from humans and does what humans do creates a unique piece no 1 AI piece or image is the same because it's random it could never replace a human or steal art. so maybe research how code works before you embarrass yourself again silly
December 17, 2024 at 1:14 am #2108611@bigspider95 - You might have missed I was being sarcastic with Adam. The attitude against AI is the same I used to see on CGSociety where anything made with DS was crap, lazy and "not real art".
Funny how people split into their own little groups. -
